ARRIVAL
Upon arrival, let the receptionist know that you are attending the Jivamukti Yoga class. Once in the yoga studio, the receptionist can guide you to the cloakroom, changing rooms and yoga room.
ARRIVING LATE OR GOING EARLY?
We recommend entering the yoga room a few minutes before the class starts so that you can start gathering your thoughts and focusing on your coming yoga practice.
If you arrive late, please enter the yoga room quietly and take a seat just inside the door until the teacher has finished speaking and the asana practice begins. If you need to leave early, let the teacher know and in order not to disturb you fellow yogis, please leave before final relaxation begins.
CHANGING ROOMS
All the yoga centres that offer Jivamukti Yoga classes have changing facilities where you can leave you belongings while you are in class.
All studios all offer the possibility to take a shower before or after class. Yogayama also have a sauna and a steam room available.
WHAT TO WEAR WHILE PRACTICING YOGA
It's best to wear comfortable, but not too loose, clothing; in addition to making it easier to practice this also helps the teacher to observe alignment in the postures and make proper adjustments during the class.
MATS, PROPS & BLANKETS
Yoga mats, blocks and blankets (for added support in certain postures and for warmth during relaxation) are available at all studios.
Yoga mats however come in a variety of materials, textures (and colors!) and different yogis have different needs so it is always a good idea to find out what you suits your practice and buy your own mat. Mats, as well as other yoga stuff, are sold at all centres.
CELL PHONES
Most centres recommend that you as a courtesy to both other yogis few turn off your cell phone upon entering. A yoga space is a place for us all to relax and focus on the present and it is best for all participants if cell phones are completely turned off during practice.
INJURIES & PREGNANCY
If you have any injuries, have recently been ill or are pregnant, let the teacher know. Some postures may not be suitable for you at that time and the teacher will be able to offer you alternatives.
EATING BEFORE YOGA PRACTICE
A full stomach can make class unnecessarily uncomfortable. Most yoga masters recommend refraining from eating a full meal at least 2 hours before class. Something that is easier to digest, like a piece of fruit, can often be eaten without any problem.
WATER
It is best to drink water before and after class, not during. You are working hard to create much heat (tapas) in the body, and drinking water during practice will reverse the effect.
